Retreat For Management Of Asthma & Breathing Disorders
Date: August 1 - 15

Ananda’s Yoga Guru Sushant Pandey will guide you in managing Asthma and Breathing Disorders.

Asthma a most common respiratory disease affects the bronchial tubes, or airways, of the lungs making breathing difficult. It is characterized by recurrent attacks of spasm of the tubes of the lungs. Symptoms include frequent coughing-especially at night, shortness of breath, wheezing, and chest tightness, pain, or pressure. Asthma attacks can be triggered by infections such as colds or the flu, exercise, cold weather, tobacco smoke, air pollution, allergens, and chemical odours.
Causes of asthma are many. At psychological level, suppression of negative emotions such as anger, resentment and hatred is often a cause. It can rise at any age, but is especially common in children and adolescents.

Another factor for asthma and other breathing disorders is exposure to allergens. Causes like food products, drugs, medicine, dust environmental and atmospheric pollutants, climatic conditions, unhealthy diet and lifestyle play role in creating breathing  disorders  in an individual. But in recent years, great strides have been made in developing new treatments so that people with can successfully manage breathing disorders themselves, reducing symptoms and maintaining an active, satisfying life.

Yogic management of respiratory disorders at Ananda

Yogic practices help in restoration of depleted and blocked Pranic energy. The combination of yogic Shatkriyas (Hatha yogic cleansing techniques), Yogasanas (Postures) and Pranayama (breathing techniques) gradually help. One should be consistent with the practices.

Asanas help to open up the chest and lungs and help to have a good movement of breath and energies. Also, Pranayama practices help in strengthening the entire nervous and cardio-respiratory systems and allow better control over the breath.
The cleansing practices (Shatkriyas) of yoga are very effective in dissolving and removing thickened accumulated mucous wastes from nasal membrane. Two Shatkriyas are very effective in managing the problems of Asthma and breathing disorders.

Jal Neti is a process done with saline lukewarm water to cleanse nasal passage, sinus and throat. Water is poured from one nostril and it naturally comes out through the other nostril. Neti is a very effective in managing the problems of sinusitis, hay fever, asthma, tonsillitis and dust allergies. It is a practice which rejuvenates the entire head region and after the removal of toxins one feels lightness and relaxation.

Kunjal is the voluntary regurgitation of saline lukewarm water from the stomach. This cleanses the upper abdominal areas such as stomach, oesophagus and throat. In yogic therapy Kunjal plays a very significant role in reliving the conditions of asthma.

Apart from above two techniques a balanced life style, regular yoga practice, proper relaxation, meditation and Kapha diet are always recommended.
