Ananda announces its new Retreat for Insomnia Management. This retreat run by Ananda’s Ayurveda, Yoga and Aromatherapy experts will be conducted from December 1st to December 15th, 2013.

About Insomnia

Insomnia sleep disorder could be primary insomnia i.e. not directly associated with any health condition or secondary which is because of health conditions like asthma, depression, arthritis, heart burn etc. Chronic insomnia can last for a long time and typically results from anxiety, chronic stress or pain discomfort. Insomnia can result in sleepiness during the day, general tiredness, irritability and problems with concentration or memory.

The Insomnia Management package

A personal consultation is the beginning of the program where individual dosha (body type) is determined and
based on the dosha the rest of the program is then customized. The program starts with a Grounding Salt Scrub
which uses essential oils of Rose, Vetiver and Sandalwood infused into natural sea-salt to stimulate and
strengthen the skin while calming and soothing the mind.

Ayurvedic treatments start with Pizhichil, an indulgent Ayurvedic rejuvenating experience during which lukewarm
herbal oils anoint the entire body, followed by Talopodichil, a herbal head pack that helps relieve insomnia, stress,
and migraines. Other Ayurvedic experiences include Abhyanga (a traditional synchronized full body massage  
given by two experienced Ayurveda therapists using herbal infused sesame oil), deeply effective for improving
sleep patterns, Shirodhara where lukewarm oil is poured in an even stream on to the forehead normalise sleep
patterns, improve memory and address other neurological disorders and Urovasthi where warm medicated oil is
gently poured into a reservoir on the chest made from gram flour to soothe muscular tissue and alleviate

Personalized Yoga sessions follow to align the entire body .These are gentle Hatha Yoga guided one-on-one
sessions performed in the serene, majestic backdrop of the Himalayan foothills. The Yoga sessions lead on to
guided breathing and meditation including Pranayama which removes blockages from the subtle energy channels,
followed by Yoga Nidra, a technique of deep yogic relaxation.

The central phase of the program consists of Reiki healing sessions which are hands-on healing techniques using
universal life force energy to break up energy blockages within the body, stimulating the body’s natural ability to
heal itself thus reducing stress and anxiety. The continuation of meditation techniques includes Trataka (steady
gazing) or Candle meditation which acts as a stepping stone between physically oriented cleansing and meditation

Aromatherapy sessions follow, using essential oils to go deep within the lymphatic system. A grounding essential
oil using pressure points intensifies the therapeutic effect of this age old treatment specifically for treating
insomnia. A signature Ananda experience in this program is the Aroma cocoon where feather light lymphatic
drainage movements are performed using a blend of grounding essential oils, and the body is then cocooned in a
warm blanket to enhance the absorption in to the skin.

The program ends with Reflexology Massage stimulating reflex points to restore energy flow to the body as a
whole, a grounding Hydrotherapy bath using a blend of tranquility essential oils, and finally a signature Himalayan
Honey and Rose Facial to relax the face and bring that refreshed glow to the skin. A detailed de-brief with the
Ayurvedic Doctor and a lifestyle consultation sets down easy to follow guidelines back home after returning from
Ananda to continue making positive life style changes and to follow wellness and meditation practices to manage
chronic insomnia.

The Insomnia Management Package includes accommodation, spa, yoga and meditation sessions and meals. Rates for the package are available with Ananda Global Reservations (reservations@anandaspa.com). Scheduled activities such as lectures for the duration of the retreat are complimentary.
